Enabling the root account in Mac OS X

Before we start, if you don't know what root is or what you would use it for, then don't enable it. There are many other resources on around that you can read up on what root is and what you may use it for, so I won't go into that.

To enable the root account, open /Applications/Utilities/NetInfo Manager. It should look about like this:



Under the Security menu, choose the Authenticate... option. Type in your admin password. Then, under the same Security menu choose Enable Root User. It will then ask you to type a secure root password, twice.



After you have done this, quit the NetInfo manager, and you now have enable the root user account.
